Seems that the folks working on zyGrib have the same concept in mind. From the
babelfish translation of the web page:
------------------------------------------
To make…
List absolutely not ordered functionalities which miss, or which do not go, or
badly, in short of all the tricks which will be perhaps improved a day.
1. To discover the hidden bugs;
2. To correct the bugs discovered without adding others of them;
3. Representation in levels of colors of the pressures;
4. To improve the placement of the labels of the isobars;
5. To post a trace GPS synchronized with data weather;
6. To trace longitudes and the latitudes;
7. To post sea charts in basic image;
8. To post other data weather;
9. To see the file with the format grib2;
10. To create an animation starting from the contents of the file grib;
11. To use charts GSHHS modified (ROWS) to accelerate posting with
high-resolution;
12. etc
---------------------------eof---------------

Seems that item No. 7 would be of interest to anyone exploring grib
integration with gpsdrive. I don't speak french, so if anyone is fluent and
has an interest in this you may want to ping the developers to see whats up
as there is no project list server rather a web form. Perhaps there is an
opportunity here to collaborate on a feature set for both applications. Their
background world image based on shoreline data could use much improvement
both visually and in terms of rendering. Extremely slow. This is where
gpsdrive excels.
