Off remit but ;-) Left or Right ?

Imagine centuries back: you'r on a road, alone, on a horse, a man
on another horse approaches from a distance. You naturally keep
  your sword/ knife/ pistol/ whip arm between you & him. There's
  a 90+ % chance you are right handed & keep left. 90+ % chance
the stranger does too. There an 81+ % chance you pass naturaly
  without risking your undefended side.

Napoleon became Emperor of much of Europe, left handed, & edicted
  everyone drive on the Right.

  Disclaimer:
  - I'm right handed.
  - I grew up driving on left.
  - I live where Napoleon's armies were, & where they still drive on right.

PS In well designed castles, spiral staircase change direction
at ground/ invader level, so whether defenders retreat to cellars,
or upper floors, in both cases their right sword arm is free &
their body protected by the axial stone pillar.

On remit:
I'd like to get a modern light weight PDA for GPS with FreeBSD under,
for walking day trips. Reccomendations / URLs etc welcome beyond

Cheers,
