So what on earth is LatLong-UTM conversion.cpp doing in the svn source? Is it
there to scare away anyone who wanders in by accident? :) I did a lot of
digging and couldn't find anything else in there that looks for it but it's
there so someone must have seen the state of the grid mapping thing and
decided to throw data that and say a few prayers.
Anyway, I'm have been following the docs for pgrouting to the letter to at
least give it a chance. The database will be a pain, Ireland took around 5
times longer to set up than with osm2psql but its spitting out results and if
fairly easy to request routes from, how good they are is yet to be seen. I'm
filtering the output with perl to spit out gpsdrive track files, when thats done
it can get some real testing. Some earlier hand copied attempts didn't look to
good but there was a 'high margin of error' there, possibly PBKAC ;)
@Guenther Meyer, I was guessing there where plans on the cards after looking
at the source :) I'll keep away from that then but may quiz up a friend who
has a lot of experience in search engines in case he has anything interesting
to add.
I'll keep you posted on how gprouting turns out, it would be great if it works
as it's just a few more sql statements and a return plot. I'll keep my
attention on that and try and figure out a point and click way to go from an
osm file to a configured database. The folks at pgrouting seem very helpful and
quick to respond so a combined mapnik and pgrouting db shouldn't be too hard
to get support for (pgrouting are using a different co-ordinate system).
Nearly forgot:
http://pgrouting.postlbs.org/svn/pgrouting/tools/osm2pgrouting/trunk
Does what it says on the tin :) Has a few small bugs (doesn't like '
characters in names and needs 'id' changing to 'gid' on the last line of
Export2DB.cpp) but it gets the data in there, try a small city map first
though, you would need a calender to time the planet map :) A mix of this and
osm2pgsql with the option of pretty buttons would make everyone happy.
cheers
