yes, this is possible.
I guess you have gpsdrive up and running with your gps device?
then you only have to switch on "show" and "save" in the "track" bos at the 
left side of the map. then a track filename is shown, where ypur track will 
be stored.
in the svn version of gpsdrive you can also export the recorded track directly 
to a gpx file.
