I deleted all the copy's of osm.xml from my pc
then I did a svn checkout, and

 ./build_make.sh --prefix=/usr/local --build Release

this gives me an osm.xml file in :

/home/ian/.gpsdrive/osm.xml

and

/home/ian/svn.gpsdrive.org/build/scripts/mapnik/osm.xml

Still no road names :-(

I have discovered that the roads are only displayed if I run gpsdrive from
the build directory, i.e. :

cd /home/ian/svn.gpsdrive.org/build
gpsdrive

Don't know if this is related to the road name problem.

P.S.

I was hoping that as the maps were drawn on the fly, that it would be
possible for them to be rotated to match the direction of travel. But I
believe that mapnik does not have a function to rotate the data before
rendering the map. Is this correct ?

Cheers, Ian
