Hmm, I haven't been able to compile gpsdrive for a long while.  
After another 'svn up' just now, running ./autogen.sh produces 
this:

  aclocal -I m4 --force ...
  aclocal-1.10: `configure.ac' or `configure.in' is required
  An error occurred.
