I extremely  appreciate your words. in this very skilled world , is nice
to feel useful without any special skill.
Yesterday I installed Gpsdrive on ubuntu 8.04 alpha 3, and I felt my
howto became old in only one  day!!
Everything was very smooth, no more necessary to download
libboost-python 1.33.1 nor python-mapnik 0.4.0-2 : all dependencies come
with gpsdrive installation, except for postgresql, postgis and
posgresql-8.2-postgis. I had a message in terminal during the
installation of postgresql-8.2-postgis because default postgersql
package install latest version 8.3.
the rest was just looking for packages in synaptic and mark them.
so it was quite a miracle: what I nedeed on monday happened on tuesday.

by the way: is it possible to download somewhere openstreetmap file for
Italy alone? my old laptop won't swallow whole europe file, it blocks
after " processing nodes 18350 ". how big is the decompressed file?
