I had the same problem of sorts. Following this thread and notes I was able to 
get this latest version up and running. In order to do so, I had to load the 
openstreetmap world boundaries which is huge. Unfortunately I use gpsdrive 
only for marine charts on NA

I was wondering, is it possible to separate out the mapnik dependencies for 
those of us who done use it and also for those like myself who would love to 
use it on an EEEPC. I suppose the options are present are to drop back to 
previous versions.
