According to this link:

http://www.hydro.linz.govt.nz/charts/raster-navcharts/index.asp

the datum WGS84 is the same, however, these charts are delivered as tiles and
are encrypted:

" NZMariner has been compiled using the Hydrographic Chart Raster Format
(HCRF) v2.0."

Since the preparation of charts for gpsdrive depends on gdal transformations
its all dependent if gdal can deal with this file format and at this point I
dont know as I have not reviewed it. No time at present.

Sounds interesting. You would only have to start gpsd on boot however me
thinks unless you want to build a form of dedicated terminal that boots
directly into gpsdrive. I played with the ubuntu version on the first gen of
the EEEPC and got gpsdrive to work on it rather smoothly (no mapnik support
needed...older version of gpsdrive) as proof of concept, then sold the
machine to await the model that will supposedly come with a touch screen.
Still waiting..:)
