Hi,

you can load pretty much any map into GRASS GIS and then use d.out.gpsdrive to make a tile. It's how I made the standard NASA blue marble maps. see also the sar page on the GRASS applications wiki.

I'm travelling and can't test your dataset right now, but if you are still stuck next month give me a buzz and I'll see what I can do.
