This will always occur when gpsdrive can not initialize mapnik.
There is a problem with some locations of mapnik data and a couple of simlinks will sort it but are not an ideal fix. It will be in the howto once I write it up. Probably tomorrow.

This has nothing to do with mapnik but if you want to generate maps via gpsfetchmap.pl then you need to install Imagemagick and the perl Image/Magick modules via cpan.
