[ gpsdrive ] Mapnik and OSM - getting closer but not yet...

I get this error:
Cannot init mapnik. Mapnik support DISABLED: Could not create datasource. No
plugin found for type 'shape' in layer 'world-1'

Any ideas what could be wrong?

And where do I get all these icons that are missing on startup?

In the README file is mentioned that I have to run
geoinfo.pl  --create-db --fill-defaults --openstreetmap --db-user=root
--db-password=<our mysql root password>
Is this something that is no longer used in current versions?

The "Compile and install" instructions in README are no longer valid BTW.
