Hi Jörg,
Thanks for the feedback.
All you say is more than likely correct, I'm still working on it and
refining it.
My intention was to develop something that was consistently repeatable and
so I went back to basics. ie install one package make sure it's correct
then proceed to the next.
I only use ubuntu for gpsdrive as my first choice is suse but I'm yet to
update that to a point where I can consistently install gpsdrive later
than 2.10pre1 without errors (also too many other things on that computer
that would need to be updated and can't afford to have it offline). So
I'm still learning how to do things in ubuntu/debian. Ubuntu also works
better on my laptop with the touch screen I use in the car.
Does the gpsdrive debian package reflect the svn version or the 2.10pre4
version? Reason I ask is that I tried to install 2.10pre4 version using
the tarball but would not work using this howto (lots of errors compiling
due to missing -dev packages).
I'll investigate each of your hints as I get time and update where necessary.
Maybe a another section to the howto using debian only packages and
"mapnik-osm-updater.sh" etc. So that the full manual method (as described
already) becomes a fallback if there are errors and those can be easily be
traced and rectified.
Regards
Ross
