Hello all,
I am having a problem that is driving me up the wall. Here it is
as plainly as I can put it. I am running FreeBSD 6.3 with GPSD 2.36 loaded
from the ports collection. I have a Magellan eXplorist 210 GPS with a USB
connection. Now, when I hook it into the computer, and I select NMEA 2.1 GSA
it states the following…
ugen0: Thales Navigation Magellan eXplorist, rev 1.10/1.00, addr 3
Now I can clearly see that it is detected and assigned to /dev/ugen0. so
when I start gpsd I try the following
$ gpsd –N /dev/ugen0
It doesn’t fight me, however when I telnet to port 2947 to check the NMEA
statements, it draws a blank. I clearly have a 3d lock according to the
Magellan unit. So I should be getting something. If I start GPSdrive it says
that it has timed out receiving data from the gps. I must admit I’m at a
loss, I have tried several devices that I thought it could be
ugen0
ugen0.1
ugen0.2
ugen0.3
usb
usb0
And usb1, none of them give me any data. I don’t understand what I am doing
wrong, do I need to set a bit rate for the device? Can anyone shed some
light on my problem? I have some other NMEA options, but the gpsd hardware
site said to use 2.1 because the other options choke the gpsd program. I
tried them anyway still to no avail. Thank you for taking the time to
listen, I hope someone can help.
