see 'gpsdrive --help'

it gives some options to set window size if autodetection doesn't work.
I have no idea how well those options work, but they are there.

for recording tracks I might lean to using cgpxlogger that comes with
Gpsd, it's a lot simpler and thus more robust. Of course you can use
gpsdrive at the same time.
