e.g. apparently it uses the NAD83 datum, not WGS84 like the GPS does,
but that's a very minor point and probably not worth worrying about.

where are the PDFs?
better to use the Tiffs below, if they are in fact GeoTiffs (ie tiffs
with geo-coding information embedded in them as metadata).

if you download a Tiff block from there, what does gdalinfo say about
it?  (http://gdal.osgeo.org)

Probably you can just download your block and run gdal_slice.sh to make
your GpsDrive tiles.
