Kim:

Vic here in snowy Canada. I just managed to get gpsdrive working on my
eeePC using a NAVMAN usb/serial plug-in GPS receiver (an older unit model
4-7-A-77-0585) The eeePC recognized the unit from boot-up and it picked up
12 satelites even through my office window. I used the MapDownload bar to
download street maps from Expedia for my home area with solid results. It
is taking some practice to get used to the keyboard/mouse navigation
routines but that is just a matter of time.

Since my objective is to use gpsdrive for my boating navigation, my next
challenge is to find an easy way to Import/convert my navigation charts
for Lake Ontario that are in BSB format, which unfortunately is not one of
the presently supported map formats in gpsdrive.

Perhaps the gpsd team could put the BSB format on their "development list"
for a future revision. BSB is widely used by recreational boaters. I would
contribute but I am new to Linux and do not have the programming skills, but
I would certainly help in testing.

Vic
