Thanks Hamish, I was plotting a route from the East coast to Lake Ontario, 
inland, some 1000 kmiles for a delivery trip. The expectant waypoints along 
the route will be in the neighborhood of 2000 or more as more than a third of 
the route is via the canal systems in NY State that snakes all over the 
country side. NOAA charts are available for the entire route..:) 

A question if I may. I am currently running a stable version of gpsdrive on a 
virtual system 2.10pre4 as supplied by Ubuntu archives. I also have the svn 
version which I update weekly running on the base OS as I found that it 
overwrites stable when installed. 

Is there a way perhaps in a chroot jail or something, to have both stable and 
testing running on the same installed OS. Currently testing on Ubuntu 8.10 
and will stay at that level until its unsupported.
