Boy a flood of information tonight. This raises an interesting question I was 
pondering earlier this evening. Map folders can be anywhere on the file 
system provided the correct naming convention is adhered too. 

see man gpsdrive subsection maps.

What I've noticed is that the file structure under .gpsdrive/ is getting 
rather cluttered. Was wondering what people do to organize their file 
structures ie: recommended best practices, for large data sets. With NOAA 
maps/tiles as well with other data sets the structures will get rather large 
and complex. 

The same applies of course to waypoints, routes and tracks.
