like the compass in car mode? could be possible.
there is one question I wonder for a long time:
is the minimap really necessary? who uses it?
my preference would be to remove it completely, or at least move it to a
separate window...

especially in pda mode there is the question which and how much widgets should
be overlayed. on small displays the space is very limited, and people still
want to see something of the map I guess...
