a lot of people are working on routing with osm data ;-)
the primary plan was, to wait until a good solution, which can be easily 
included into gpsdrive, is ready to be used.

but there is another, simpler approach:
we can connect to the api of openrouteservice for route calculation and use 
the results inside gpsdrive. I already had a short look on that, and it 
seems, that this can be implemented very easy. the only drawback is, that an 
online connection will be needed for this feature.

so, yes, we will have routing within the next few months.
