[ gpsdrive ] making use of AIS data

Internet links are tough to find offshore, and I think data from them would
be difficult to integrate since it is in display format already.  Data
coming from the receiver is delivered in some kind of sentence format
already.  It just has to be interpreted and combined with the gpsd
sentences.  Multiplexers are commonly sold to the sailors just for this
task. One of many:
