[ gpsdrive ] beginner questions

I'm just getting started with GPS on my eeePC running eeebuntu.  I have gpsd
and gpsdrive loaded and I have a DeLorme LT40 receiver plugged in and
running (according to dmesg).  When I run gpsdrive, no GPS is detected.  Do
you have any suggestion as to how I can check this out and get this running?
