well, as long as I am using it I'll maintain my own patches.
I'm not asking for much effort or support from anyone else for that.
It can be useful as a generic build, e.g. to also work on ubuntu versions
released before lenny. for 2.10 I think we should aim for ubuntu 8.04 and
etch compatibility. after 2.10 is released sure, break compatibility if
it means access wonderful new features.
there is some balance between not holding back development and having the
program require a full bleeding edge OS toolchain to run.
